URBAN SCUBA MINI

Non-Aerial Short Program · (25 minutes)
Urban Scuba MINI is a portable, low-tech, non-aerial version of the show designed to offer audiences a dynamic taste of Urban Scuba without the technical demands of the full production. Performed by the full cast with a single technician, this 25-minute performance delivers a high-energy montage of seven carefully selected excerpts that capture the spirit, creativity, and visual inventiveness of the larger work—enticing audiences with its imaginative re-use of found objects while preserving the surprises of the full-length show. Ideal for students, the general public, senior centers, and presenters seeking an accessible marketing or outreach tool, MINI adapts to almost any space, including school gymnasiums, community centers, studios, and nontraditional venues. With its energetic pace and strong thematic through-line, it provides a meaningful introduction to Urban Scuba’s world while inviting curiosity to experience the complete production.

URBAN SCUBA 101

Lecture Demonstration · (40–60 minutes)
This lively lecture-demonstration invites both performers and non-performers to observe or participate physically. Performers share sections of the show and reveal how everyday found objects drive movement, partnering, and creative invention. Participants explore how discarded items can be reimagined for new choreographic meaning, then safely interact with select props under performer guidance. The session concludes with a portable performance excerpt that offers a clear window into the world of Urban Scuba.

URBAN SCUBA MASTERCLASS

For Professional and Pre-Professional Dancers · (80 minutes)
Led by performers from Urban Scuba, this masterclass introduces JUNK’s 25-year movement approach to partnering with objects. After a 20-minute warm-up, participants engage in partnering work with and without props, exploring timing, weight-sharing, and responsiveness. The session then moves into choreographic play using everyday objects—exploring resistance, friction, balance, and how objects spark new movement ideas. The class concludes with learning phrases and techniques drawn directly from Urban Scuba, offering dancers a hands-on experience with the show’s inventive, object-driven creative process.

OTHER ENGAGEMENT AND MARKETING ACTIVITIES

Audience engagement can include performer poster signings in the lobby after the show, a post-show Q&A onstage, media appearances coordinated with local outlets, and tailored donor or board-member appearances. For donor-focused events such as galas or fundraisers, a soloist or duet may perform short excerpts of our aerial spectacle work customized to match the event theme. These activities create direct connection, deepen audience curiosity, and offer an inspiring, uplifting experience that strengthens community visibility, media reach, and donor engagement.
